POOL & HOT TUB ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES REVISION OF APSP-12 PLASTERING STANDARD; CALLS FOR CHANGE REQUESTS AND COMMITTEE PARTICIPATION

(Alexandria, Va.) — The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), the trade association representing the swimming pool, hot tub, and spa industry, announces the upcoming review and revision of ANSI/APSP/ICC/NPC-12 2016 American National Standard for the Plastering of Swimming Pools and Spas, and calls for subject matter expert (SME) participation in the PHTA-12 Standard Writing Committee (SWC).

The PHTA-12 SWC will revise the standard, which addresses the cementitious interior finish of swimming pools, spas, and other aquatic facilities, both public and residential. The standard will assist local jurisdictions, as well as national and international regulatory bodies, in the development and promulgation of criteria for the plastering of swimming pools. It is also intended for adoption into the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) published jointly by PHTA and the International Code Council (ICC).

The SWC will meet under the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) periodic maintenance process, including reviewing and considering revisions to the standard in coordination with the National Plasterers Council (NPC). SMEs who would like to serve on the SWC must be willing and able to actively participate in the language drafting process and have a working understanding of the current standard. The anticipated timeline for this project is less than two years.

All stakeholders, including pool builders, manufacturers, plastering companies, pool service companies, testing laboratories, certifying bodies, pool designers, public health and building code officials, local municipalities, and pool and spa operators, are invited to apply to serve on the PHTA-12 SWC. PHTA seeks to establish a diverse SWC, ensuring reasonable balance between all interest categories, individuals, and organizations. Some priority will be given to applicants who have experience using, applying, and enforcing the APSP-12 2016 Standard. The application to serve as a PHTA-12 committee member is available here.

Interested parties who may not be subject matter experts or active users of the standard are encouraged to attend meetings as observers throughout the revision process.

Stakeholders are also invited to submit change requests to the existing APSP-12 Standard for inclusion in the revised standard. These change requests will be reviewed by the PHTA-12 SWC. Change requests can be submitted here and must be submitted by May 31, 2024, to be considered.

Completed SWC application forms must be submitted to PHTA by March 11, 2024. For more information, visit the Participate in the Process page, phta.org/standards, or contact April Nowicki, PHTA Manager of Publications and Standards Development, at anowicki@phta.org.
