PHTA-6 Standard for Residential Portable Spas and Swim Spas - Draft in Development
PHTA is pleased to announce the review and revision of ANSI/APSP/ICC-6 2013 (R2023) American National Standard for Residential Portable Spas and Swim Spas. This standard covers the design, equipment, installation, and use of residential portable spas and swim spas.

Join the Standard Writing Committee
PHTA is currently seeking volunteers to contribute to the revision of this standard by serving on the PHTA-6 Standard Writing Committee (SWC). The committee is responsible for developing and drafting the content of the standard, and for responding to all written views and objections on the draft.
Anyone may serve on a PHTA SWC – PHTA membership is not required. When serving on a PHTA SWC, you agree to the following:
- Abide by PHTA’s Antitrust Policy, Conflict of Interest Policy, and Volunteer Code of Conduct.
- Attend regular meetings, once or twice per month, for approximately one year.
- Act in an orderly manner at all meetings.
- Understand and follow parliamentary procedure and Roberts Rules of Order.
- Carefully review the existing APSP-6 standard, Change Requests (CRs) toward the new revision, and any other resource documentation provided to the SWC as part of the review process.
- Vote in all decisions to be made by the committee, both during meetings and via electronic ballots.

SWC applications must be received by July 11, 2025.
The PHTA-6 SWC will revise the standard, which provides recommended minimum guidelines for the design, equipment, installation, and use of residential portable spas and swim spas. The standard is also intended to assist local jurisdictions and other regulatory bodies, where necessary, in the development and promulgation of criteria for residential portable spas and swim spas.
Submit Change Requests
Stakeholders are also invited to submit change requests to the existing APSP-6 Standard for inclusion in the revised standard. These change requests will be reviewed by the PHTA-6 SWC. Change requests must be submitted by July 2, 2025, to be considered during this revision cycle.
